The region’s Philippine Statistics Authority presented to the officials and employees of the ARMM’s different line agencies the results and the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the 2015 Census Population in a Data Dissemination Forum on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at the Em Manor Convention Center in Cotabato City.

PSA-ARMM Regional Director Abubakar S. Asaad said the forum was intended to give different stakeholders a better appreciation of the value of statistics.

The 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015) is the 14th census of population in the country since the first census in 1903. Its general objective is to provide government planners, policy makers and administrators with population data which will serve as their bases for their social and economic development plans, policies and programs.

ARMM Executive Secretary Atty. Laisa Alamia said the “forum is very important. We should make sure that it is not only the government that has interest over these kinds of data. All of the other stakeholders in the society should also be interested in this and they should know the results of all the surveys that have been conducted in the country, specifically in the ARMM.”

She said: “Data is power. It’s very important that we have the basic idea and this does not apply only to PSA, it should be something that should be vigorously applied by every employee of every government agency.”
