Former Abu Sayyaf Camp turn-over ceremony in Basilan

ARMM Governor Mujiv Hataman, Basilan Governor Jim Saliman and Lt. Col. Ernest John Jadloc, battalion commander of the 74th Infantry Battalion (IB), led a turn-over ceremony on Sunday morning, September 18, marking the restoration of government authority in a former stronghold of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Barangay Baguindan, Tipo-Tipo, Basilan.

The military, overran the ASG camp in the area on 12 August as part of the government crackdown against the terror group. It was also meant to help bring back government authority and social services.

Gov. Hataman called for unity among the hundreds of residents present during the ceremony. He urged them to live together in harmony and to help foster a long lasting peace.

After the ceremony, the ARMM government conducted a People’s Day to provide free services such as medical consultation, dental and eye check-up, and distribution of hygiene kits.

The region’s humanitarian emergency action response team (ARMM-HEART) provided also relief packs to 1,574 families in Barangay Baguindan and Barangay Silangkum and in Al-Barka town.

Present during the event were ARMM Regional Vice-Governor Haroun Alrashid Lucman Jr., Anak Mindanao partylist representative Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman, Mayor Arcam Istarul of Tipo-Tipo town and other ARMM officials. (Bureau of Public Information)
